Our stance on service packs
At Converge, we take a deliberately conservative stance on service packs. When a new SOLIDWORKS version ships, the early service packs (SP0, SP1, and often SP2) are still working out the kinks. Those first releases carry the freshest code, which means they also carry the freshest bugs. For a production engineering team, an afternoon lost to a crash, a mate that will not solve, or a drawing that will not open is not worth being first in line.
So we play it safe. Our standard guidance is simple: hold off on any release before SP3.
Why SP3 is the sweet spot
Here is the reasoning. By the time SP3 lands, the version has run in the field for months. Real users have put it through real workflows. Users have surfaced the reproducible bugs, and Dassault has patched them. Dassault has also smoothed out the performance regressions, and add-in partners have caught up. What you get with SP3 is the same feature set the early adopters saw, minus most of the pain they absorbed to get there. It is the most baked, most stable build of the release, and it is the point where the risk curve finally bends in your favor.
It is about protecting billable design time
That is not caution for its own sake. It protects billable design time. Your engineers should be modeling, not filing support tickets or babysitting a beta. We have seen teams jump on an early service pack, hit an unexpected regression, and lose days chasing a fix that a later patch would have handled for them. We would rather you upgrade a few months later on solid footing than go first and spend the quarter firefighting.
Should you move to 2026 now?
If you are on a stable 2025 build and everything runs clean, there is no need to rush. But if you have been waiting for the right moment to move to 2026, SP3 is it. The new tools are ready, and months in the field have proven the foundation beneath them.
