Titan Steel Door | Solutions For All 3 Pillars of CAD Data
CAD Data Challenge
Titan Steel Door set out to grow — but their CAD process was holding them back. By the end of Q3 2024 the company had transformed how it designs, manages, and shares engineering data. Titan's wishlist included: fewer shop-floor mistakes, dramatically faster delivery of accurate drawings, and a scalable engineering operation ready for rapid growth. Titan needed a simple, disciplined road map and Converge’s engineering-first execution.
The problem: great products, fragile processes
When Converge met Titan in Murrayville, Georgia, the shop floor told the story: doors and frames didn’t always fit together, production was reworking orders, and engineers were spending hours rebuilding designs from old files. The core issues were painfully familiar:
-
No PDM or CAD standards. Engineers duplicated files, created dozens of uncontrolled variants, and had no single source of truth.
-
Manual, brittle workflows. Valuable time was lost hunting for the “right” file, or reverse engineering past jobs.
-
No engineering IT support. Titan had no CAD administrator and chose not to maintain on-prem engineering servers.
-
Poor distribution to the floor. Drawings were printed, passed around, annotated, and misread — a full-time drag on quality.
This mix of people, process, and technology gaps meant Titan could not scale without taking on unacceptable risk.
The Converge approach: solve the root cause, not symptoms
We started small and practical: a breakfast meeting, a site visit, and a focus on what actually mattered. Two discoveries changed everything:
-
Titan’s catalog — though large — was really just four configurable product families. That meant a master-model approach would unlock exponential reuse.
-
Titan didn’t need more servers or more software/IT complexity — they needed an engineering workflow that produced one record of truth and let the team focus on design.
From there Converge mapped a three-phase program addressing the 3 Pillars of CAD Data: CAD Data Creation, CAD Data Management, and CAD Data Distribution — all executed with targeted training and managed services.

What we built — and how it worked
Master model + SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional (hosted in EpiGrid): Converge helped Titan reimagine product modeling using a parametric master model for each family. Instead of rebuilding for every order, engineers derive configurations from a single, governed model. The PDM vault (hosted in the EpiGrid cloud) became the authoritative store — automatic versioning, access from anywhere, and zero on-prem server burden.
Library and process migration: Purchased parts, COTS libraries, and reference files were migrated into the vault so reuse became the default. Converge’s team worked side-by-side with Titan to build the first master models and seed the vault.
Shop-floor distribution with Flatter Files + VDI: To eliminate printers and manual updates, we automated drawing generation and deployed a VDI uploader that pushes approved drawings to tablets on the floor using the Flatter Files Cloud. Production now views live, approved drawings — no paper, no ambiguity. As Damon put it, “I wear out printers…” — that problem is now solved.
Training, documentation, and managed administration: We ran on-site and remote training, delivered an Engineering Systems Process Review (ESPR) that codified standards and became Titan’s onboarding manual, and introduced Managed CAD Administration Services (MCAS) so Titan doesn’t need a full-time PDM admin.
The outcome: measurable, repeatable gains
The transformation is dramatic and tangible:
-
Faster, more accurate design: Tasks that used to take hours now take minutes. Engineers produce consistent, aligned drawings and models every time.
-
One record of truth: PDM Professional eliminated duplicate files and version confusion; every design has a single, auditable source.
-
Scalable onboarding: The ESPR and repeatable workflows let Titan add engineers rapidly without re-teaching tribal knowledge.
-
Higher shop-floor productivity: Real-time, digital drawings reduce mistakes and speed throughput.
-
No IT drag: Hosting the PDM vault in EpiGrid removed server maintenance and freed Titan’s team to focus on product, not infrastructure.
Most importantly, the change is not brittle — it’s repeatable. Thousands of legacy “products” collapsed into four configurable families, enabling Titan to scale without multiplying complexity.
Why Converge’s expertise mattered
Any vendor can sell tools. Converge delivered outcomes by combining deep SOLIDWORKS and PDM expertise with pragmatic engineering empathy:
-
We discovered the real problem (not just the symptoms) and designed a minimal, high-impact solution.
-
We built the master models and the PDM vault so the transition was immediate and risk-free.
-
We trained and documented the new workflows so the benefits stick and scale.
-
We operate the environment through MCAS and EpiGrid hosting — removing the need for Titan to add specialized IT staff.
That mix of domain knowledge, process discipline, and managed services is why Titan’s transformation didn’t stall after implementation — it accelerated.
What’s next
Titan is already seeing the downstream impact: higher quality, reduced rework, and the operational headroom to take on more work. Over the next year Converge and Titan will continue to refine distribution, enhance onboarding, and expand cloud capabilities.
If your engineering data is a tangle of copies, or your shop floor is still running on paper, Titan’s story is a blueprint: master your models, centralize your data, automate distribution, and operationalize the outcome with managed services. Converge can help — from discovery to execution to long-term operations — because turning engineering chaos into production confidence is what we do.
Want to see the shop floor or engineering room images, design screenshots, or Titan’s logo for a case study or press kit? We’ve gathered the assets and can share them for your collateral — or we can help you capture what you need on a visit.
