Improving SOLIDWORKS Drawing Save Times without including Detailing Mode data
If you have ever used the new Detailing Mode introduced in 2020, you may have noticed that while drawing performance is much increased, file save times now take longer when saving the same drawing in Regular Mode. That is due to SOLIDWORKS saving extra data to support Detailing Mode. Luckily, if you do not intend to use Detailing Mode, there are ways to minimize these longer save times in Regular Mode. Below are several strategies for minimizing save times in SOLIDWORKS drawings, which can significantly enhance productivity:
Disable "Include Detailing Mode data":
-
- For SOLIDWORKS 2020 to 2021, go to System Options > Drawings > Performance and uncheck the option Include Detailing Mode data when saving.
-
- Starting in SOLIDWORKS 2022, this option can now be found in Document Properties > Performance > Save Model Data. Uncheck this option.
Reduce File Size: One of the most effective ways to decrease save times is by simplifying your drawings. This can be achieved by removing unnecessary details, such as redundant dimensions or annotations, and by avoiding overly complex assemblies. Consider breaking large assemblies into smaller sub-assemblies or using simplified configurations when creating drawings.
Utilize Lightweight Components: When working with large assemblies, consider using lightweight representations. This allows you to load only the essential parts of the assembly, which can significantly reduce the time it takes to save drawings since less data is being processed.
Manage References Wisely: Keeping external references organized is crucial. Minimize the number of external references where possible, as each reference can slow down the saving process. Regularly check and clean up any unnecessary references to ensure a more efficient design process.
Regular File Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance on your SolidWorks files can greatly enhance performance, eliminate unnecessary data, streamline your files and contribute to faster save times.
By implementing these strategies, users who do not intend to use Detailing Mode, can minimize save times in Regular Mode. Leading to significant time savings and increased efficiency in managing drawings.
